Privacy policy

How BioSkop uses your information and the controls available to you.

Your account and your choices

BioSkop uses account and viewing information to provide video playback, saved progress, community comments and account security. BioSkop includes free-to-watch content. Paid options are available only when offered in the app through an enabled store purchase flow.

You can manage notifications in Settings, report comments, block accounts and delete your account in the app. Read the deletion steps and what is retained.

Who to contact

This policy covers the BioSkop mobile app, web player and account services. BioSkop is currently maintained by its project owner. Contact thendonengwenda@gmail.com for privacy questions, access or correction requests, or help with deletion. Do not send passwords, verification codes or payment-card details.

Information the service processes

InformationPurpose
Account detailsEmail address or phone number used to sign in, a generated account identifier, verification state and authentication information. Firebase Authentication handles credentials and sign-in; BioSkop uses your identifier and contact details to provide your account and protect access.
Profile and commentsYour username, any profile image or biography you provide, and comments you post. These support public community features. Comments and public profile information may be visible to other signed-in users.
Viewing and activityVideo progress, saved series, likes, followed accounts or creators, and in-app notifications. These enable Continue Watching, My List, community counts and followed content. Video view totals are also recorded.
Sponsor delivery and interactionWhen a sponsor campaign is available for a Free episode, account-linked delivery reservations, timestamps, daily frequency limits and sponsor impression, click, skip and completion events help limit placements and measure the pilot. These events are client-reported measurements, not verified paid views. Sponsor reports include the reason and any details you submit. Current subscription status is used to remove advertising for Premium subscribers.
Safety and supportComment reports, the reason and details you submit, accounts you block, moderation decisions, and information you send when requesting support. These support abuse handling, personal blocking and responding to requests.
Optional notificationsA push-notification token if you enable push alerts. It identifies where to deliver notifications and is stored with your account. You can disable push notifications in the app and in your device settings.
Optional performance diagnosticsIf you turn on Performance diagnostics in Settings, BioSkop measures video startup delay, buffering, played duration, completion and a limited set of playback error codes. This setting is off by default. Private, account-linked diagnostic sessions and replay records enforce consent and measurement limits; reports group results by day, device platform, MP4 or adaptive streaming, app version and release channel. The performance reports do not contain your account identifier or the title you watched. Diagnostics do not include media links, sign-in tokens, contact details, advertising identifiers or persistent device identifiers, and do not determine sponsor payments or creator royalties.
Operational informationHosting and authentication providers may process IP addresses, browser or device information, request times and errors to deliver content, prevent abuse and operate the service. BioSkop does not request your device’s GPS location, address book, microphone or camera for the current viewing features.

Sign-in and service providers

BioSkop uses Google Firebase Authentication and Google Cloud for account services, its database and private media storage. When you choose Google or Apple sign-in, the provider may supply your email address and name; Google may also supply a profile-image reference. Firebase Authentication stores available account-profile information to manage your sign-in. Phone sign-in uses Firebase SMS verification and browser-based anti-abuse checks. Phone numbers supplied for authentication are sent to and stored by Google for spam and abuse prevention across Google services. SMS availability depends on the configured countries and delivery provider.

Cloudflare provides the public domain and traffic routing. If you enable push alerts, delivery uses Expo’s notification service and your device’s Apple or Android push service. These providers process information needed to deliver their services. Information may be processed in countries outside your country of residence. Adaptive video preparation uses Google Cloud processing in Belgium, while private source videos and streaming files remain stored in Johannesburg.

We share public comments and profile information through community features, and authorised administrators can review reports. Account email addresses, phone numbers, sign-in tokens and push tokens are not exposed as public profiles. We may disclose information when required by applicable law or to address security, abuse or legal claims.

Advertising and payments

BioSkop may show clearly labelled sponsor cards between Free episodes. Campaigns are selected for the Free title or series being viewed, with account-linked frequency limits; they are not selected using sensitive profile information or cross-app activity. You can skip or report a sponsor card. Current Premium subscriptions remove advertising. The pilot records the sponsor interactions described above but does not integrate an advertising-network SDK, use an advertising identifier, share viewer-level events with sponsors, or combine them with cross-app data for targeted advertising. External sponsor destinations have their own privacy practices and may process information when you choose to visit them.

BioSkop does not collect payment-card details. Where purchases are available, Apple or Google processes payment under the store’s own terms and privacy policy. BioSkop receives transaction or purchase-token verification information, product and store identifiers, purchase and expiry times, and transaction status to grant or restore access and prevent fraud. A purchase is not treated as successful until server verification succeeds. If a paid option is unavailable, no purchase can be completed through that option.

If you contact support by email, your message is handled in the support contact’s mailbox. It is not erased automatically by deleting your in-app account. Contact the project owner if you also want support correspondence reviewed or removed.

On your device

The app stores sign-in session information and preferences so you can stay signed in and keep your playback settings. Native sign-in session information uses the device’s secure storage; the web app uses browser storage. Authorised offline video downloads and their expiry details are stored on your device. Signing out clears that account’s downloaded videos. You can remove browser storage or uninstall the app to clear local data; these actions alone do not delete your server account.

These information pages do not contain advertising trackers, analytics scripts, forms or cookies. The web player and sign-in services use storage and security mechanisms needed for their account features.

Retention and account deletion

Account information is kept while your account exists to provide the service. Deleting your account removes its authentication account, private contact details and push token, public profile, authored comments, likes, follows, saved series, viewing progress, notifications, block records and associated reports from BioSkop’s active account data. Entitlement records, if any, are removed as well. Account-linked sponsor deliveries, frequency records and measurement events are removed. Private playback-access sessions, diagnostic sessions, replay records, preferences and measurement limits are also removed. Turning off Performance diagnostics stops new diagnostic recording and removes its private session and replay records. Anonymous performance totals can remain without an account or watched-title association. Operational diagnostic records include expiry information, but automatic database cleanup has not yet been verified; no scheduled deletion period is promised. Sponsor report free text and account attribution are removed; a limited moderation record can remain with a one-way deletion reference.

A limited security record containing a one-way hash of the deleted account identifier, deletion state and timestamps is retained to prevent reuse of a deleted identity and to complete deletion reliably. This record does not contain the original identifier, email address, phone number or profile. No automatic expiry is currently configured for this security record. If store purchases have been made, limited purchase-verification records may also remain to prevent a transaction being reused. After account deletion, those records retain transaction hashes, product and store identifiers, purchase or expiry times and status, without the BioSkop user identifier or contact details. No automatic retention period is currently configured for those records.

Licensed catalogue videos, series, media and cast credits managed for BioSkop remain part of the catalogue when a content-management account is deleted; the deleted account’s attribution is removed. Administrative sponsorship and royalty records, including signed-contract references, beneficiary names, reconciled receipts and reversal records, are retained for financial review; deleted administrator attribution is replaced with a one-way deletion reference. No automatic retention period is currently configured for these records. Viewer interaction measurements do not determine these royalty statements. Infrastructure providers may separately retain security and operational logs under their own retention policies. Copies already saved or shared by other people may remain outside BioSkop’s control.

Your controls and requests

Applicable privacy laws may provide additional rights. We will consider requests under the laws that apply to the service and your request. If a child has supplied personal information to BioSkop, their parent or guardian can contact the project owner for help with review and deletion. Content suitability should be considered before children use the app.

Changes

We update this page when the service’s data practices change. The update date appears at the top. Material changes will also be communicated through the app or an appropriate account notice.
